What is your objective?
Students will be able to:

  • identify, define, and implement CTPs
  • conceptualize and formally describe a game: players, goals, interactions
  • formally describe the agents involved in a game
  • implement a game
  • develop a test-script to evaluate whether or not a game has met it's defined objectives
  • evaluate their own and others' games based on initial requirements

What game will you teach first?
Frogger

What grade(s) will you teach?
8th grade with some 9th mixed in

How often do you meet with your class? How many total class periods?
4 times a week (Modified Block 50min/90min) for one semester

How many students will you teach?
2 sections of 25-30

What will the layout of classes look like? For example, Class 1: I will introduce the program, teach class rules, etc. Class 2: Frogger Part I
3 Weeks. Week 1: Frogger: 1. AgentSheets exposure, rubric, expectations, exemplars, Setup First Project 2. Street Scene: Generation/Absorption 3./4. (Block) Street Scene: Collision, River Scene 5. Winning, Multiple Levels, Extensions Week 2: Journey/Sokoban Week 3: Custom Project, Assessment, Arcade Day

What support materials will you need/use? (Consider curricula materials, technology resources, etc)

How will you integrate it into your existing curriculum? For example, will it replace current lessons, will you swap an existing lesson for a SGD lesson?
This will replace the current 3-week Alice Unit that I am currently teaching When do you plan to teach this unit for the first time?

  • Provide pre-Java thinking
  • Establish simulation/competition ideas that will be developed later in APCS projects

What game will you teach first?
Frogger What grade(s) will you teach?
10-12 How often do you meet with your class? How many total class periods?
4 times per week (modified block) How many students will you teach?
18-20 What will the layout of classes look like? For example, Class 1: I will introduce the program, teach class rules, etc. Class 2: Frogger Part I
10 days:

  • Overview, CTPs, Exemplars
  • Frogger (2 days)
  • Contagion
  • Other simulation(s)

What support materials will you need/use? (Consider curricula materials, technology resources, etc)

How will you integrate it into your existing curriculum? For example, will it replace current lessons, will you swap an existing lesson for a SGD lesson?
Replace some supplementary material (GUI programming) that I used to include at the end of the year When do you plan to teach this unit for the first time?
